SBACC says hydraulic fracturing bills are premature

Legislators have introduced a series of bills to stop the standard practice of hydraulic fracturing, a process by which oil and natural gas is extracted from the ground. Most of this process occurs in Kern County where no impact on public health has been documented. Nonetheless, the following bills being opposed by SBACC will hold up this process until a team of state agencies propose new regulations: AB 288 (Levine), AB 649 (Nazarian), AB 1301 (Bloom), AB 1323 (Mitchell).

SB 121 Seeks to Put Business at Disadvantage in Elections

Senator Evans has introduced SB 121 that requires publicly-held corporations to annually issue reports on past political expenditures to California shareholders, notify shareholders within 24 hours prior to contributions made during their fiscal year and create a civil cause of action for shareholders against corporations that fail to issue the report and meet the notification requirements. SB 121 is a reintroduction of legislation last year (SB 982). Last year the bill was pulled from the Senate Banking Committee before it was heard. Given the changes in the committee membership it may be more difficult for that to happen again.
